After two month of intense and very practical training at Vientiane Autism Center three new teachers received their certificates and will return to Pakse to start work at Pakse Autism Center (PAC). This will allow the recently opened facility to increase the number of children with autism receiving education from currently four to ten. During awareness raising and screening activities of the Association with Autism about 20 children with autism have been identified in Pakse and surroundings.
After Vientiane Autism Center which started in 2009 the PAC is the second center of its kind in Lao PDR. Both institutes are operated by the Association for Autism, an officially registered non-profit association of parents of children with autism. Currently 40 children aged from 2 to 17 years are learning at VAC. The new center in Pakse has been established in partnership with Handicap International (funded by the European Union).
